Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge for Neuroendocrine Cancer

Prof Sandip Hindocha was born and brought up near the Saddleworth area and as a medical student and junior doctor contributed to the magazine with monthly medical articles. Years have passed and Sandip now works as a clinical director and consultant plastic surgeon in the NHS at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS trust and privately on Harley Street and beyond. Sandip would like to thank The Around Saddleworth Magazine, in particular Paula for her kind support over the years and especially for this upcoming charity event.

Along with a team of fellow cyclists consisting of other NHS hospital colleagues, solicitors, engineers and friends, Sandip is undertaking the gruelling Coast to Coast cycle challenge, with a planned 150 mile route.

They are cycling to primarily raise funds for the Primrose Cancer Clinic at Bedford Hospital whilst at the same time, raising awareness for a rare form of cancer, collectively referred to as NETs. These are Neuroendocrine Tumours that can arise in many parts of the body within cells that release hormones into the body. Sadly, they often present late primarily because they have such a wide variety of symptoms, depending upon exactly where in the body they develop. All local patients that develop this condition will be treated in our excellent Primrose Clinic and hence the desire to raise as much money as possible for our local specialist cancer service at Bedford.

The date of the challenge is Spring/Summer 2024. Please help motivate their cycling efforts by sponsoring them – any donation will be very much appreciated.
