Breast Lift

Mastopexy surgery to elevate and reshape drooping breasts, restoring a firmer, more youthful contour that reflects how you feel.

ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Elevate and Restore Your Confidence

Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is performed to elevate and contour breast tissue that has drooped due to pregnancy, weight loss, or the natural ageing process. Each of these factors stretches the supporting ligaments of the breasts, causing them to lose their shape and firmness — a condition known as ptosis.

Mastopexy repositions breast tissue to a more aesthetically pleasing and youthful position. The procedure tightens the skin envelope and elevates the nipple to enhance breast form, creating a lifted, natural silhouette without the addition of implants. Where additional volume is desired, a lift can be combined with augmentation or fat transfer.

ENHANCING YOUR RESULTS

Combining a Lift with Other Surgery

A lift pairs naturally with other procedures for a more comprehensive, tailored result.

Breast Augmentation & Lift

Adding implants alongside a lift restores both shape and volume — ideal when pregnancy or weight loss has left breasts deflated. Both goals are achieved in a single procedure and a single recovery.

Breast Reduction & Lift

A reduction removes excess breast tissue while simultaneously reshaping and lifting. The result relieves physical discomfort and creates a more proportionate, uplifted silhouette.

Fat Transfer & Lift

Fat transfer adds gentle natural volume using your own body fat. A good option for patients wanting modest additional fullness without the commitment of implants.

RECOVERY TIMELINE

Your Path to Recovery

Weeks 1–2

Initial Healing

Follow-up appointments at week 1 and week 2 after discharge. Rest and avoid strenuous activity; wear your sports bra continuously for support.

Weeks 2–3

Return to Light Work

Most patients can return to desk-based tasks and light daily activities. Avoid lifting, reaching overhead, or any chest-straining movements.

Week 4

Moderate Activity

Return to moderately physical work. Swelling continues to reduce and the breast shape begins to settle into its final position.

Week 6

Full Recovery

Exercise and heavier physical activity are typically approved at 6 weeks. Your final breast shape continues to refine over the following months.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Scarring & Healing: A Realistic Timeline

Scarring is an inevitable part of mastopexy. Understanding how scars evolve helps set realistic expectations.

SURGERY DAY

Fresh Incisions

Incisions are placed precisely around the areola and, depending on technique, vertically below or along the breast fold. Sites are closed with sutures and dressed.

WEEKS 1 - 4

Pink & Healing

Scars appear raised, pink, and firm as healing begins. This is entirely normal. Keep the area clean and avoid all sun exposure during this phase.

MONTHS 2 - 6

Gradual Fading

Scars soften and fade from red to a lighter tone. Silicone sheets or scar creams are often recommended during this period to support the healing process.

12 - 18 MONTHS

Settled & Mature

Most scars become flat, pale, and significantly less noticeable by 12-18 months. Final appearance varies by skin type and how consistently aftercare advice is followed.

WHY CHOOSE THIS

The Benefits of a Breast Lift

No Implants Required

Mastopexy uses your own tissue to restore shape, avoiding the maintenance, replacement concerns, and risks associated with breast implants.

Lasting Rejuvenation

A breast lift delivers long-lasting results that age naturally, with proper aftercare and a stable weight preserving the outcome for many years.

Improved Symmetry

Mastopexy allows precise repositioning of breast tissue and nipples, improving symmetry and creating a more balanced, proportionate appearance.

Combinable with Other Procedures

A lift can be performed alongside augmentation, fat transfer, or reduction for a comprehensive result tailored to your individual goals.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Is a Breast Lift Right After Pregnancy or Weight Loss?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are among the most common reasons women seek a breast lift. The weight and volume changes during pregnancy stretch the skin and supporting ligaments significantly. Once these changes reverse after weaning, the skin may not fully retract — leaving breasts that droop or feel deflated.

Significant weight loss has a similar effect. As the body sheds fat, breast volume often reduces faster than the skin can adapt, resulting in excess skin and a loss of firmness.

Prof. Hindocha recommends waiting until your weight is stable and you have finished breastfeeding before undergoing mastopexy, to ensure your results are as long-lasting as possible.

Signs you may be ready for a lift

  • Your breasts have lost their pre-pregnancy or pre-weight-loss shape and firmness
  • Nipples point downward or sit at or below the breast fold
  • Your bra feels empty at the top while skin gathers below
  • You have finished breastfeeding and your weight has been stable for at least 6 months
  • You are not planning further pregnancies in the near future

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about breast lift surgery.

Not necessarily. A breast lift alone reshapes and elevates existing tissue without adding volume. If you also want fuller breasts, augmentation or fat transfer can be performed at the same time. Prof. Hindocha will advise on the most appropriate approach during your consultation.
A breast lift delivers long-lasting results, though the breasts will continue to age naturally over time. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing supportive bras helps preserve the outcome. Future pregnancies or significant weight changes can affect results.
A breast lift typically takes around 3 hours under general anaesthesia. Most patients are discharged the same day as a day case procedure.
The technique used depends on the degree of ptosis and the amount of reshaping required. Options include a periareolar (donut) lift, a vertical (lollipop) lift, or a full anchor (inverted-T) lift. Prof. Hindocha will recommend the most appropriate technique for your anatomy during consultation.
Most patients return to light desk-based work within 2-3 weeks. Moderate physical activity is typically possible by week 4, with a return to exercise and heavier work approved at 6 weeks, subject to your surgeon’s assessment.
Some scarring is inevitable, but Prof. Hindocha uses precise techniques to minimise and position scars in inconspicuous locations. Scars typically fade significantly over 12-18 months, and most patients find them well worth the improvement in breast shape and position.
