CONFIDENCE RESTORED.

Gynaecomastia

Expert male breast reduction surgery — combining liposuction and excision — to create a flatter, more masculine chest and restore the confidence that has been quietly holding you back.

UNDERSTANDING GYNAECOMASTIA

It's More Common Than You Think

Gynaecomastia is the development of excess breast tissue, increased fatty deposits, or a combination of both in the male chest. It affects a significant number of men at some point in their lives and can cause considerable self-consciousness — shaping how a man dresses, exercises, socialises, and sees himself.

The condition can arise from hormonal changes during puberty, weight gain, medication side effects, or genetics. In many cases the tissue does not resolve on its own — and no amount of diet or exercise can remove glandular breast tissue. Surgery is the only definitive, permanent solution.

The procedure combines liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue and surgical excision to address glandular tissue, producing a flat, masculine chest contour. Professor Hindocha tailors the approach to each patient’s specific anatomy, addressing fat, gland, or a combination with precision and discretion.

3 Hours

Surgery Time

Local or General

Anaesthesia

Not Required

Hospitalisation

Up to 6 Weeks

Compression Garment

6–8 Weeks

Return to Gym

The exact surgical approach — augmentation, reduction, lift or combination — is determined at consultation based on your individual anatomy and goals.

YOUR RECOVERY TIMELINE

Getting Back to Your Best

Days 1–3

Rest & Compression

Wear the compression garment consistently and rest. Mild swelling and bruising is normal and expected. Most patients can return to light everyday activity within a few days of surgery.

Week 1–2

Gentle Return

Return to light work is possible for most patients. Continue wearing the compression garment and follow aftercare guidance. Avoid any upper body exertion or lifting during this phase.

Week 3–4

Building Confidence

Swelling reduces significantly and the flatter chest profile becomes increasingly apparent. The compression garment continues to support healing. Heavy lifting and chest training should still be avoided.

Week 6–8

Full Return

The compression garment is discontinued. Gym, chest training, and strenuous physical work can fully resume. The final chest contour becomes completely apparent — and the result is yours to keep.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Results of Male Breast Reduction

Gynaecomastia surgery consistently delivers one of the highest patient satisfaction rates in male cosmetic surgery. The difference extends far beyond appearance.

  • A flatter, more masculine, and well-defined chest profile
  • Removal of excess fatty deposits through precision liposuction
  • Permanent excision of glandular breast tissue
  • Improved chest contour and definition both clothed and unclothed
  • Freedom to wear fitted clothing, swim, and exercise without self-consciousness
  • Long-lasting results that do not regrow once glandular tissue is removed

WHY CHOOSE SURGERY?

The Case for Gynaecomastia Correction

The Only Permanent Solution

Exercise can reduce fat but cannot remove glandular breast tissue. Surgery is the only treatment that addresses both components permanently — producing a result that is definitive, not temporary.

Tailored to Your Anatomy

Every case of gynaecomastia is different. Professor Hindocha assesses whether the primary issue is fatty tissue, glandular tissue, or both — and uses liposuction, excision, or a combination to achieve the best possible chest contour for your anatomy.

Minimal Downtime

Most patients return to light work within a few days. A compression garment worn for up to 6 weeks supports healing and shapes the final result. Full gym and physical activity resumes at 6–8 weeks.

Life-Changing Confidence

For many patients, gynaecomastia has shaped how they dress, swim, socialise, and engage in sport for years. The psychological impact of the correction is often described as more transformative than the physical change itself.

UNDERSTANDING THE CONDITION

Why Gynaecomastia Develops

Gynaecomastia is far more common than most people realise — and it is rarely the result of anything a man has done wrong. Understanding the cause helps explain why surgery is often the only path to a permanent result.

  • Hormonal changes — an imbalance between oestrogen and testosterone during puberty is the most common cause in younger men
  • Ageing — testosterone levels decline with age, which can lead to breast tissue development in older men
  • Weight gain — excess body fat can increase oestrogen production, while the chest area is prone to stubborn fat deposits
  • Medications — certain drugs including anabolic steroids, anti-androgens, and some antidepressants are known to cause breast tissue growth
  • Genetics — some men are simply predisposed to the condition regardless of weight, fitness level, or lifestyle

THE SURGICAL APPROACH

How Gynaecomastia Surgery Works

The technique used depends on the nature of your condition — fatty tissue, glandular tissue, or both.

TECHNIQUE 1

Liposuction

Used when the primary concern is excess fatty tissue. A small cannula is inserted through a discreet incision to remove fat from the chest area. Minimal scarring, excellent contour, and a swift recovery. Suitable for cases where glandular tissue is not the primary issue.

TECHNIQUE 2

Excision

Required when firm glandular breast tissue is present. An incision is made around the edge of the areola to directly remove the tissue. This is the only technique that achieves a permanent flat result when glandular tissue is involved — liposuction alone cannot address it.

TECHNIQUE 3

Combined Approach

The most commonly performed approach. Liposuction removes the fatty component while excision addresses the underlying glandular tissue — together producing the flattest, most masculine result. Professor Hindocha determines the right combination during your consultation.

COULD THIS BE FOR YOU?

Who Is a Good Candidate for Gynaecomastia Surgery?

Gynaecomastia surgery is suitable for men of any age who are bothered by the appearance of their chest and whose condition has not responded to lifestyle measures. You may be a good candidate if:

  • You are a non-smoker or willing to stop smoking before surgery
  • You have realistic expectations and understand the surgical approach

THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT

You're Not Alone — and You Don't Have to Stay There

Gynaecomastia rarely affects only the chest. For many men, it shapes behaviour, self-esteem, and social engagement for years — sometimes decades. Avoiding the pool, wearing baggy clothing to hide the chest, skipping the gym, or feeling uncomfortable in intimate situations. These are experiences that many men share but few talk about openly.

For the vast majority of patients who undergo gynaecomastia surgery, the psychological impact of the result is described as more significant than the physical change itself. Professor Hindocha understands this and approaches every consultation with the discretion and sensitivity the condition deserves.

  • Avoiding the gym, pool, or beach because of chest appearance
  • Wearing loose clothing to conceal the chest at all times
  • Declining activities that involve removing your shirt
  • Low confidence in intimate or social situations
  • Feeling that diet and exercise have made no difference to the chest
  • Carrying the condition silently for years without discussing it

YOUR QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know About Gynaecomastia Surgery

Straight answers before you take the next step.

Gynaecomastia is the development of excess breast tissue, fat, or glandular tissue in the male chest. It is a common condition that can arise from hormonal changes, weight gain, medication, or genetics. Surgery is the only permanent treatment when the tissue does not resolve naturally.
The procedure typically combines liposuction to remove excess fatty tissue with surgical excision to address glandular breast tissue. The approach is tailored to each patient — addressing fat, gland, or both depending on the specific anatomy and the nature of the condition.
The procedure typically takes around 3 hours and can be performed under local or general anaesthesia. No overnight hospital stay is required — it is performed as a day case.
Most patients return to light work within a few days. A compression garment is worn for up to 6 weeks to support healing and shape the result. Strenuous exercise and heavy physical work can typically resume after 6–8 weeks.
Incisions are placed discreetly — typically around the edge of the areola and/or in a natural fold for liposuction access — to minimise visible scarring. With time and proper scar care, any marks typically fade to near-invisibility.
Surgical correction of glandular breast tissue is permanent — the tissue removed does not regrow. Significant weight gain may increase fatty deposits over time, but maintaining a stable weight helps preserve the surgical result long-term.
