Inverted Nipple Correction

A cosmetic surgery used to treat nipples that are flat or inverted. The nipple is everted during surgery to give it a more natural appearance by releasing the milk ducts pulling it inward.

ABOUT THIS SERVICE

How Inverted Nipple Correction Works

Inverted nipples can develop naturally or may occur as a result of breastfeeding or previous surgery. The condition can affect one or both nipples and ranges in severity from a nipple that can be manually everted to one that is permanently retracted.

Inverted nipple correction involves placing a series of specialist sutures to push the nipple outward and restore a natural, everted appearance by releasing the milk ducts that are pulling it inward.

Scarring from the procedure is minimal. Visible swelling and bruising typically resolve within one to two weeks, though the final shape of the nipple may take a few months to fully settle.

RECOVERY TIMELINE

Your Path to Recovery

Days 1–2

Rest & Monitor

Mild discomfort and swelling are normal. Keep the area clean and dry and follow all dressing and aftercare instructions carefully.

Day 2+

Return to Work

Most patients return to both light and moderately heavy work within just 2 days of discharge. Avoid direct pressure or compression to the treated area.

Week 1

Follow-Up

Your first follow-up takes place 1 week after discharge to assess healing, check suture integrity, and confirm the position of the correction.

Week 3+

Full Activity

Heavy exercise and strenuous physical activity can resume after 3 weeks. Final results may take a few months to fully settle and stabilise.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

A Natural Result, Swiftly Achieved

Most patients are delighted with the results. The correction delivers a natural appearance with minimal disruption to daily life:

  • Natural, everted nipple appearance
  • Minimal visible scarring
  • Swift return to normal activities within days
  • Improved confidence and body image
  • Long-lasting results in the vast majority of cases
  • Final results stabilise over several months

WHY CHOOSE THIS

Simple Procedure. Meaningful Difference.

Minimal Downtime

Discreet Results

Specialist sutures create a natural-looking nipple with minimal visible scarring and no requirement for a supporting garment post-procedure.

Quick Procedure

Lasting Confidence

A simple, effective correction that delivers long-lasting improvements to the appearance of the nipple and overall self-confidence.

LONG-TERM RESULTS

What to Expect Over Time

Inverted nipple correction delivers lasting results for the majority of patients. Understanding what influences longevity helps you maintain the best possible outcome:

  • Results are permanent in most cases when performed with specialist sutures
  • In rare cases, the nipple may gradually retract if the milk ducts reassert themselves over time
  • Avoiding compression or trauma to the area in the first weeks supports long-term stability
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding after the procedure may affect the position of the nipple
  • Hormonal changes over time can occasionally influence nipple position
  • A minor revision procedure is available if needed and is typically a straightforward day case

COMBINING PROCEDURES

Combining Inverted Nipple Correction with Other Surgery

NIPPLE SURGERY

Nipple & Areola Reduction

Combine correction with a reduction in areola size or nipple prominence for complete nipple-areola refinement in a single procedure.

AUGMENTATION

Breast Augmentation

Many patients address nipple inversion at the same time as augmentation, achieving a complete aesthetic result in a single surgery.

BREAST LIFT

Mastopexy

Inverted nipples are commonly corrected alongside a breast lift for a fully restored, natural-looking breast contour in one procedure.

BREAST REDUCTION

Reduction Mammoplasty

Nipple correction is regularly performed as part of a breast reduction, resolving inversion while reshaping and reducing the breast simultaneously.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

Everything you need to know about inverted nipple correction.

Inverted nipples can be a natural anatomical variation present from birth, or can develop as a result of breastfeeding, pregnancy, or previous breast surgery. In some cases they may indicate an underlying condition, which Prof. Hindocha will assess at consultation.
Results are long-lasting in the vast majority of cases. However, as the procedure involves releasing the milk ducts, there is a small chance the nipple may retract over time. This will be discussed thoroughly during your consultation.
Some temporary changes in nipple sensation may occur following the procedure. In most cases sensation returns to normal as healing progresses. Permanent loss of sensation is uncommon but is a risk that will be discussed at consultation.
The procedure releases the milk ducts to evert the nipple, which means breastfeeding after surgery is unlikely to be possible. This is an important consideration for patients who may wish to breastfeed in the future.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia so you will not feel pain during surgery. Some mild discomfort and tenderness in the days following is normal and well managed with over-the-counter pain relief.
Initial results are visible immediately after surgery, though the final shape and position of the nipple may take a few months to fully stabilise as swelling subsides and tissues settle.
