PROPORTION. SYMMETRY. CONFIDENCE.
A cosmetic surgical technique to reduce the size of the nipple and areola for aesthetic purposes or to improve symmetry, delivering better balance and a more proportionate appearance.
ABOUT THIS SERVICE
Some people are born with disproportionately large or puffy areolas, or drooping nipples. In others, the areolae and nipples can change as a result of ageing, nursing, hormonal shifts, or physical trauma — occasionally becoming enlarged, darkened, or malformed.
Nipple and areola reduction is performed to reduce their size and restore a more balanced, proportionate appearance. If asymmetry is present, treating only one side can achieve the desired result with minimal disruption to the other.
The procedure is highly individualised — taking into account the patient’s aesthetic goals, natural breast size and shape, and overall proportions. Results become apparent after a few months as swelling fully resolves. Scarring is minimal.
UNDERSTANDING THE CAUSES
Understanding what causes areola or nipple enlargement can help patients make a fully informed decision about treatment. Common contributing factors include:
UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS
NIPPLE
Reduces the height or width of the nipple itself. Suitable for patients whose nipples protrude excessively or appear disproportionately large relative to the areola and breast.
AREOLA
Reduces the diameter of the pigmented area surrounding the nipple. Suitable for patients with enlarged, stretched, or asymmetric areolae affecting the overall aesthetic of the breast.
COMBINED
Both can be addressed in a single procedure for patients who wish to reduce the nipple and areola simultaneously, achieving a fully refined and proportionate result in one visit.
ONE SIDE
If asymmetry is the primary concern, treating only the larger side can restore balance with minimal intervention — leaving the other side completely untouched.

RECOVERY TIMELINE
Day 1
Mild swelling, bruising and numbness are normal and expected. Keep the area clean and dry and follow all dressing and aftercare instructions carefully.
Days 1–2
Both light and moderately heavy work can typically be resumed within 1 to 2 days of discharge. Avoid direct pressure or compression to the treated area.
Week 1
Your first follow-up takes place 1 week after discharge to assess healing, check suture integrity, and confirm early results are progressing well.
Week 3+
Heavy exercise and strenuous physical work can resume after 3 weeks. Final results become fully apparent after a few months as swelling completely resolves.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Nipple and areola reduction is a precise, minimal-scarring procedure that delivers lasting aesthetic improvements. Most patients experience the following:
WHY CHOOSE THIS
Return to light and moderately heavy work within just 1 to 2 days — one of the fastest recovery timelines of any cosmetic procedure.
Highly individualised procedure that considers your aesthetic goals, natural breast size and shape, and overall proportions for the most balanced result.
Performed under local anaesthesia as a day case in approximately 1 hour — no general anaesthesia or overnight hospital stay required.
A minimal-scarring procedure that delivers lasting improvements to nipple and areola proportion, symmetry, and overall breast aesthetics.
RISKS & WHAT TO EXPECT
During Surgery
The procedure uses local anaesthesia, carrying a lower risk profile than general anaesthesia. Temporary numbness and mild discomfort around the treated area are expected immediately after.
Immediately After
Mild swelling, bruising and numbness are normal in the first few weeks following the procedure and resolve naturally as healing progresses.
Healing Phase
Scarring is minimal and placed discreetly at the areola border. Temporary changes in nipple sensation may occur, usually resolving over several months. Permanent changes are uncommon.
Long Term
Minor asymmetry or a small revision is possible. Future pregnancy or breastfeeding may affect results over time. All risks are discussed openly at your consultation with Prof. Hindocha.

Such a subtle but meaningful change. The symmetry is so much better now and I feel so much more confident. The recovery was much easier than I expected.
