Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation increases breast size or improves shape using a silicone implant, your own fat, or both. Prof. Sandip Hindocha (GMC 6122218) offers traditional implant augmentation, fat transfer and the tissue-preserving Motiva Preservé technique, with consultations in Northampton, Luton, London and the North West.

ABOUT THE SERVICE

What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to increase the volume and improve the shape of the breasts. It is most commonly performed using silicone implants, though it can also be carried out using fat transfer, either alone or in combination with an implant.

The pre-operative decision-making process is critical to achieving a natural result. Prof. Hindocha will guide you through choices of implant type, size, shape and placement, each matched carefully to your body frame, breast tissue and aesthetic goals.

It is equally important to understand what having implants means in the long term: how to monitor them, when to seek advice, and the possibility that revisional surgery may be needed in future.

Prof. Hindocha also offers Motiva Preserve, a minimally invasive, tissue-preserving breast augmentation that keeps more of your natural tissue and sensation, often under local anaesthetic. See how it compares to a traditional augmentation.

What the operation costs depends on implant type, technique and where it is carried out, and a written quote follows the consultation rather than coming before it. The guide to breast augmentation costs in the UK sets out what goes into that figure and what an itemised quote should cover.

Consultations take place at eleven clinics, including The Private Clinic of Northampton on Billing Road, the Cobham Clinic in Luton and Harley Street in London, and you see Prof. Hindocha himself at each one. See all clinic locations.

IMPLANT SELECTION

Choosing the Right Implant for You

Every aspect of your implant (type, shape, size and placement) is decided together at consultation. Prof. Hindocha will guide you to the option that best matches your anatomy and goals.

Implant Type

Silicone gel implants are the most common choice, offering a natural look and feel. Fat transfer augmentation, using your own tissue, is also available for patients seeking a more subtle, implant-free increase.

Shape & Profile

Round and anatomical (teardrop) implants are available in multiple projection profiles. Prof. Hindocha matches implant dimensions precisely to your chest width, body frame and desired outcome.

Implant Placement

Implants can be placed sub-glandular (above the muscle) or submuscular (below). Placement affects the appearance, recovery and long-term feel, so it is chosen at consultation based on your anatomy.

PROCEDURE OVERVIEW

RECOVERY & AFTERCARE

Recovery Week by Week

WEEK 1–2

First Follow-Ups

Post-op review appointments. Rest, keep the area dry and wear your supportive sports bra at all times. Swelling and tenderness are normal and expected.

WEEK 2–3

Light Work

Return to desk-based and sedentary work. Continue wearing your supportive bra. Avoid lifting arms above shoulder height or carrying heavy items.

WEEK 4

Moderate Activity

Return to moderately physical work. Continue garment support. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous upper body activity until cleared.

WEEK 6

Full Recovery

Return to gym and all physical activity. Discontinue sports bra. Final results becoming clearly visible as swelling fully resolves.

YOUR OUTCOMES

What Results to Expect

Results show gradually as swelling settles over several weeks. Augmentation does not lift sagging breasts on its own (that needs augmentation with a lift), and your breasts will still change with age and weight. What it can do:

  • Add breast volume, sized to your chest width and frame
  • Improve breast shape and projection
  • Reduce a difference in size between the two breasts
  • Replace volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss

WHY TREAT

The Benefits of Breast Augmentation

Added Shape & Volume

Achieve fuller, more proportionate breasts that complement your natural body frame and personal aesthetic.

Long-Term Results

Breast implants are long-term devices, not lifetime ones. Your breasts will still change with age and weight, and implants may need replacing in future.

Fully Personalised

Every aspect, from implant type and size to shape and placement, is chosen specifically for your anatomy and goals. No two augmentations are the same.

Your Goals, Discussed Openly

Prof. Hindocha talks through what you hope to change, and what augmentation can and cannot achieve, before any plan is agreed.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

Who Benefits Most from Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is suited to women who feel self-conscious about the size, shape or symmetry of their breasts for any of the following reasons:

  • Naturally small breasts affecting self-confidence and body image
  • Loss of volume following pregnancy, breastfeeding or significant weight loss
  • Congenital breast asymmetry or underdevelopment
  • Completed breast development (18 years or older)
  • Good overall physical and mental health with realistic expectations
  • Stable weight and commitment to a non-smoking lifestyle

LONG-TERM IMPLANT CARE

Looking After Your Implants for the Long Term

Breast implants are not lifetime devices. Understanding how to monitor and care for them is an important part of having implants, and Prof. Hindocha will guide you throughout:

  • Keep a record of your implant type, size and manufacturer
  • Perform regular self-examination to monitor for any changes in shape or feel
  • Attend recommended follow-up appointments with Prof. Hindocha
  • Report any changes, asymmetry, pain or firmness promptly
  • Be aware that implants may require replacement after 10–15 years
  • Prof. Hindocha remains available for advice and review for as long as you have your implants

★★★★★

After years of being unhappy with my breasts after breastfeeding, I'm so glad I trusted my instincts and waited until I found the right surgeon. From my first consultation, Professor Hindocha made me feel completely at ease and I knew I could trust him. I'm only a week post-op and already love my results. I feel incredibly lucky to have found him and truly believe I found the best surgeon.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything You Need to Know

Answers to the questions patients most commonly ask before booking their consultation with Prof. Hindocha.

For Motiva Preservé, Prof. Hindocha uses the Motiva SmoothSilk® Ergonomix2® implant. For a traditional augmentation he uses silicone gel implants, and the shape (round or anatomical), size and projection are chosen at consultation to suit your chest width and breast tissue. Fat transfer, using your own fat, is an option for a smaller, implant-free increase.

Breast implants do not last a lifetime, and they are likely to need replacing at some point. The NHS notes that some women need further surgery after about 10 years. Prof. Hindocha explains what to watch for and how follow-up works.

Yes, and this is a common combination. If you have lost volume as well as breast projection, combining augmentation with a mastopexy (breast lift) can address both in a single operation. Prof. Hindocha will advise whether this is appropriate at consultation.

Prof. Hindocha gives you a written, itemised quote after your consultation, because the cost depends on the implant, the technique and where the operation takes place. Motiva Preservé starts from £7,995, including your consultation, implants, surgery, aftercare and Motiva warranty cover. The guide to breast augmentation costs in the UK explains what a quote should include.

Neither suits everyone. Preservé parts and stretches the breast tissue rather than dividing it, can often be done under local anaesthetic with sedation, and uses a smaller incision. A traditional augmentation may suit some anatomies, very large size changes or surgery combined with a lift better. Prof. Hindocha is certified by Motiva in the Preservé technique and recommends one approach at consultation. Compare Preservé and traditional augmentation.

Usually not. The NHS guidance says breast enlargement is normally paid for privately, with exceptions such as very uneven breasts or no breast development, depending on where you live.

The most common incision site is along the inframammary fold (the natural crease under the breast), which leaves a discreet scar hidden in the fold. Other options include the periareolar (around the nipple) and transaxillary (armpit) approaches. Prof. Hindocha will recommend the most appropriate technique for your anatomy.

Most patients return to light desk-based work within 2–3 weeks and to all physical activity by 6 weeks. You will wear a supportive sports bra throughout recovery. Prof. Hindocha provides detailed, personalised aftercare guidance at each follow-up appointment.

Many women can still breastfeed after breast augmentation, although milk supply can be slightly reduced. Incision placement and implant position are chosen with this in mind where relevant. If breastfeeding matters to you, raise it at your consultation so the plan can take it into account.

Yes. Prof. Hindocha holds consultations at The Private Clinic of Northampton, 82 Billing Road, Northampton NN1 5DF, and at ten other clinics, including the Cobham Clinic at Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Harley Street in London. You see him personally at each one, and where the operation takes place is confirmed with your treatment plan. Northampton clinic details.

All surgery carries risks. With breast implants the main ones are bleeding, infection, scarring, hardening of the scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture), rupture, rippling, changes in nipple sensation and the need for further surgery in future. BIA-ALCL, an uncommon lymphoma, is linked more often to macrotextured implants than to smooth ones. Prof. Hindocha goes through each risk with you at consultation.
