MADE FROM YOUR OWN BLOOD

PRP

An injectable treatment made from your own platelet-rich plasma, with no foreign substances. The aim is better skin texture and quality over a course of sessions.

ABOUT THIS TREATMENT

A Treatment Prepared From Your Own Blood

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment uses a concentrate prepared from a sample of your own blood. Rather than introducing an external substance, it concentrates the growth factors already present in your blood and injects them into the areas being treated.

Platelets are the parts of the blood involved in wound healing, and they carry growth factors that help direct tissue repair. The aim of injecting them in concentrated form is to prompt the skin’s own repair processes and, over a course of sessions, improve texture and tone. How much it helps varies between patients.

PRP is used for fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and general skin dullness. Because the treatment uses your own biological material, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. Prof. Hindocha assesses your skin first and agrees with you which areas to treat.

2–3 Days

First Follow-Up

Your treatment plan is agreed at consultation, after an assessment and a discussion of what you hope to achieve.

HOW PRP WORKS

From Blood Sample to Treatment

The entire treatment takes around one hour. Every step is carried out in the clinic on the same day, using only the biological material drawn from your own blood.

1

Blood Draw

A small sample, typically 10–20ml, is drawn from your arm. The process is quick and identical to a routine blood test. No anaesthetic is required at this stage.

2

Centrifugation

The sample is placed in a centrifuge and spun at high speed, separating the blood into its component layers by density and weight.

3

Plasma Extraction

The platelet-rich plasma layer is carefully extracted. It is concentrated to 3–5x the normal platelet density of whole blood.

4

Targeted Injection

The concentrated PRP is injected precisely into the target areas using fine needles, placing the growth factors in the areas being treated.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

What to Expect in the Days That Follow

Day of Treatment

Initial Response

Redness, mild swelling, and tenderness at the injection sites are normal and expected. The skin may appear flushed for several hours. Avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure, and active skincare products on the day of treatment.

Days 2–3

Follow-Up Assessment

A review appointment is scheduled at 2–3 days to assess the initial response and confirm healing is progressing well. Any minor bruising or localised tenderness typically resolves within this window.

Weeks 1–2

The Following Weeks

Injection marks have usually settled by now. Any change from PRP develops gradually, so there is little to judge at this stage.

Weeks 4–8

Next Session

PRP is usually planned as a course of three sessions, 4–6 weeks apart. How your skin has responded is reviewed at each session, and any change is judged over 3–6 months.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

What Results Depend On

PRP does not produce an immediate change. It aims to improve the quality of the skin over a course of sessions, and how much it helps varies from patient to patient. Results are not guaranteed. What treatment aims for:

  • Softer fine lines and early signs of skin ageing
  • Smoother, more even skin texture
  • Less visible acne scarring and post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • A more even skin tone
  • Firmer skin over a course of treatment

THE SCIENCE OF PRP

Three Growth Factors Involved in Skin Repair

PRP is based on the growth factors that platelets carry: proteins that help direct the body’s repair processes. Three are most often discussed in skin treatment.

PDGF

Tissue Repair & Cell Growth

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor stimulates cell proliferation and migration, recruits fibroblasts to the treated area, and initiates the cascade that leads to new collagen synthesis. It is the primary driver of the tissue-repair response.

VEGF

Vascularisation & Nutrient Delivery

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor promotes the formation of new blood vessels in the treated tissue. This supports local blood supply and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin.

TGF-β

Collagen & Elastin Synthesis

Transforming Growth Factor-beta is the primary signal driving new collagen and elastin production. It regulates fibroblast activity in the dermis. Any firming or smoothing effect develops over the weeks after treatment.

ABOUT THE TREATMENT

What to Know About PRP

No Foreign Substances

PRP is an autologous treatment: the material used comes entirely from your own body. There is no foreign substance introduced, no risk of allergic reaction, and no immunological rejection. It is one of the most biocompatible treatments in aesthetic medicine.

Used for Several Concerns

PRP is used for a range of skin concerns, from fine lines and laxity to acne scarring and pigmentation.

Works Alongside Other Treatments

PRP is often used alongside laser, chemical peels and Profhilo. When combined with resurfacing treatments, the growth factors are intended to support healing after the procedure.

Recovery Time

Most patients return to light work the same day or the day after treatment. The visible skin-level response (redness, mild swelling) usually settles within 24–48 hours.

IS THIS TREATMENT RIGHT FOR YOU?

Who Is a Good Candidate for PRP?

Whether PRP suits you depends on your skin concern, your general health and what you hope to achieve. Some patients choose it because it is prepared from their own blood rather than a manufactured product.

  • Patients with fine lines, wrinkles, or early signs of skin ageing
  • Those with acne scarring, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or uneven texture
  • Individuals wanting natural skin quality improvement without synthetic substances
  • Patients having laser or chemical peel treatments who want to add PRP
  • Those in good general health with no blood clotting disorders or active infections
  • Patients who understand that any change is gradual and varies between people

After years of being unhappy with my breasts after breastfeeding, I'm so glad I trusted my instincts and waited until I found the right surgeon. From my first consultation, Professor Hindocha made me feel completely at ease and I knew I could trust him. I'm only a week post-op and already love my results. I feel incredibly lucky to have found him and truly believe I found the best surgeon.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions About PRP

Honest answers to what we hear most often.

A local anaesthetic is applied before treatment. Most patients describe mild pressure and a brief stinging sensation. The blood draw is the same as a routine blood test, brief and straightforward. Sensitivity varies by the area treated.
A course of three sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, is usually recommended. Some patients then have maintenance sessions every 6–12 months. Your plan is agreed at consultation.
Yes. Because PRP uses your own biological material, it carries no risk of allergic reaction or rejection and is suitable across all Fitzpatrick skin types and tones. This makes it particularly valuable for patients with darker skin tones where certain laser treatments carry pigmentation risks.
PRP does not give an immediate result. Any change in hydration or texture tends to show over several weeks, and any change linked to collagen over 3–6 months. How much changes varies between patients.
Yes, and it is often combined with other treatments. PRP is commonly paired with laser and chemical peels, where the growth factors are intended to support healing. It can also be used alongside Profhilo or dermal fillers; the order and timing are planned at consultation.
Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of systemic adverse reactions is very low. Common temporary side effects include redness, swelling, and mild bruising at injection sites, which resolve within 24–48 hours. Serious complications are rare with proper technique. All risks are discussed at consultation.
