Abdominoplasty

A proven surgical solution for excess abdominal skin, weakened muscles, and stubborn fat — tailored to your body and goals.

ABOUT THIS PROCEDURE

What Is Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal area and tighten the underlying muscles of the abdominal wall. It is performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons, including the treatment of certain hernias.

The extent depends on the amount of excess tissue and individual goals. Loose skin from the lower abdomen is removed and separated abdominal muscles — diastasis recti — are tightened. This is common after pregnancy or significant weight change.

The resulting scar lies across the lower abdomen, positioned within the underwear line. A small scar around the belly button is also present. Liposuction can be added alongside for further contouring.

RECOVERY TIMELINE

Your Path to Recovery

Week 1

Rest & Monitor

Complete rest is essential. Wounds are dressed and drains monitored at your first post-operative appointment.

Weeks 1–2

Light Activity Resumes

Return to light desk-based work. Avoid lifting or strenuous activity. Continue wearing the abdominal binder at all times.

Weeks 2–4

Building Strength

Moderate physical activity gradually introduced. Swelling reduces. Continue wearing the binder for support and shaping.

Weeks 4–6

Return to Full Activity

Binder discontinued. Most patients cleared to return to exercise and full activity. Results continue to refine over the following months.

RISKS & WHAT TO EXPECT

Understanding the Risks

DURING SURGERY

Anaesthesia & Surgical Risk

All procedures under general anaesthesia carry standard risks. Prof. Hindocha works with experienced anaesthetists to minimise these at every stage of your care.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER

Swelling & Discomfort

Temporary swelling, bruising, and tenderness are expected. Drains are placed to manage fluid accumulation and removed at your first follow-up appointment.

HEALING PHASE

Scarring & Sensation

Scarring fades significantly over 12–18 months. Temporary changes in abdominal sensation are common and typically resolve within several months of surgery.

LONG TERM

Ongoing Considerations

Minor asymmetry or the need for small revisions is possible. All risks are discussed openly at your consultation so you can make a fully informed decision.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

Your Results After Abdominoplasty

Most patients experience a significant, lasting improvement in abdominal contour — permanent when combined with a stable weight and healthy lifestyle.

  • Flatter, firmer abdominal profile
  • Removal of loose or excess abdominal skin
  • Tightened and repaired abdominal muscles
  • Improved posture and core strength
  • Low horizontal scar, hidden within the underwear line
  • Enhanced confidence in clothing and swimwear

WHY CHOOSE ABDOMINOPLASTY

The Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

Excess Skin Removal

Removes loose, excess skin that cannot be addressed through diet or exercise — especially common after significant weight loss or pregnancy.

Muscle Tightening

Repairs separated or weakened abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), improving core strength, posture, and overall abdominal function.

Lasting Results

Unlike non-surgical alternatives, abdominoplasty delivers permanent results when a stable weight is maintained over the long term.

Functional Benefits

In select cases, abdominoplasty can simultaneously address certain abdominal hernias — combining cosmetic improvement with functional correction in one procedure.
