MONS PUBIS REDUCTION

Monsplasty (Pubic Lift)

Surgery to reduce the mons pubis by removing excess skin and fat from the pubic area, most often after significant weight loss or childbirth.

ABOUT THIS PROCEDURE

What Is a Monsplasty?

People with loose or sagging skin in the pubic area, most commonly after significant weight loss, bariatric surgery or childbirth, may be suitable for a monsplasty, also called a pubic lift or mons lift: a surgical reduction of the mons pubis, the area of skin and fat over the pubic bone. The skin and tissue in this area can become stretched and lax, creating a protrusion or overhang that is difficult to conceal and may cause practical discomfort.

The procedure involves making a horizontal incision through which excess skin and fat are removed. The remaining skin is then tightened and the incision is closed. The scar sits low at the pubic hairline, where it is largely hidden by clothing and underwear.

A pubic lift can be performed as a standalone procedure or, often, together with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), so both areas are treated in one operation. Prof. Hindocha will advise on the most appropriate approach at your consultation.

Whether the lift is done alone or alongside an abdominoplasty changes both the operation and the fee. The guide to pubic lift costs goes through it in more detail.

SURGICAL PLANNING

“A pubic lift and tummy tuck address adjacent areas of the lower body — combining them means one recovery, one scar site, and a more complete result.”

Combining a Monsplasty With a Tummy Tuck

An abdominoplasty tightens the abdomen but does not always deal with loose skin or fullness over the pubic area. A monsplasty at the same time treats both areas in one operation.

Prof. Hindocha performs pubic lift surgery as part of a combined plan with an abdominoplasty, or as a corrective procedure for patients who have had a tummy tuck elsewhere and find the pubic area still concerns them. Either way, the plan is agreed at consultation.

  • One anaesthetic, one hospital stay, one recovery period
  • Commonly planned as part of a mummy makeover
  • Also available as a standalone corrective procedure

RECOVERY TIMELINE

Getting Back to Normal

Days 1–2

Rest and Light Activity

Some patients return to light, desk-based work within one to two days. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, keep the area clean and dry, and avoid any activity that places pressure or friction on the incision site.

Week 1

First Check-Up

Your first post-operative appointment takes place within the first week. Prof. Hindocha will assess healing, check the incision, and answer any questions. Avoid baths and swimming during this period.

Weeks 1–2

Moderate Activity

Moderately physical tasks can typically resume from one to two weeks. Avoid strenuous exercise or activity that places sustained pressure on the lower abdomen and pubic area until cleared by Prof. Hindocha.

Weeks 2–4

Full Recovery

Many patients are cleared for all physical activity, including the gym, within two to four weeks. Swelling can take longer to settle fully.

WHAT IT AIMS TO DO

What a Monsplasty Aims to Do

A monsplasty removes loose skin that diet and exercise do not shift. What it can achieve depends on your skin, your weight and whether it is combined with other surgery.

  • Less loose skin and fullness in the pubic area
  • Reduction of loose, overhanging, or protruding skin
  • Aims to reduce chafing or irritation from overhanging skin
  • Results that depend on keeping a stable weight

A COMMON CONCERN

After Weight Loss or Childbirth

Significant weight loss and pregnancy are both physically transformative, and both can leave the pubic area with excess, loose skin that stretches and sags beyond what the body can retract on its own. For many patients, this is a persistent and frustrating physical reminder of what they have been through.

A monsplasty removes that excess skin, either on its own or as part of a wider body contouring plan.

Prof. Hindocha works sensitively with post-weight-loss and post-pregnancy patients and understands that these consultations require discretion, thoroughness, and a clinical plan built around your circumstances. The recommendation is to be at a stable weight for at least six months before proceeding.

WHY CHOOSE US

Why Choose Prof. Hindocha for Your Pubic Lift

Discreet Incision Placement

The incision is made horizontally at the natural upper border of the pubic hairline, where the resulting scar is largely concealed by clothing, underwear, and swimwear.

Recovery Time

Recovery depends on how much tissue is removed and whether other surgery is done at the same time. Prof. Hindocha sets out the expected timeline at consultation.

Combines Naturally with Abdominoplasty

A pubic lift and tummy tuck address adjacent anatomical areas. When performed together, both areas are treated with one recovery period and no additional anaesthetic.

A Plan Agreed With You

The aim is a result that looks natural and proportionate, not over-corrected. Prof. Hindocha takes time at consultation to understand exactly what you want to achieve and plan accordingly.

SURGICAL DETAIL

Understanding the Incision

Understanding where the incision is placed and how it heals is one of the most important parts of any surgical consultation.

PLACEMENT

The Pubic Hairline

The incision is made horizontally at the natural upper border of the pubic hairline. This position keeps the resulting scar below the bikini line, where it is hidden by underwear, swimwear, and most clothing.

LENGTH

Sized to Your Anatomy

The length of the incision is determined by the amount of excess skin present. Prof. Hindocha plans this precisely at your consultation, keeping the incision no longer than it needs to be.

HEALING

How the Scar Heals

With silicone scar management and careful sun protection, the scar usually fades over 12 to 18 months, though how it heals varies between patients. It sits within the natural contours of the pubic hairline and is usually hidden by clothing.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Who Is a Pubic Lift Suitable For?

I cried when I stood in front of the mirror after the operation (tummy tuck and arms). I cannot believe the results and I could not be more grateful. His team and care have been fantastic.

From my first meeting with Professor Hindocha, I knew I was in safe hands. After a failed thigh lift abroad, he was honest about revision limits—but he's exceeded my hopes. Just 4 weeks post-op, neat scars & new confidence. Truly a miracle worker!

Amazing experience and surgeon. So incredibly thorough, precise and professional. Went above and beyond to explain every last detail to me, he put me at ease, didn't mind a family member being there, very down to earth, can't praise him enough. Would only use this surgeon now.
