Motiva Preservé Breast Augmentation

Motiva Preservé is a breast augmentation technique that parts the breast tissue to make room for the implant instead of cutting through it. The SmoothSilk Ergonomix2 implant goes in through an incision of about 2.5 to 3 cm, often under local anaesthetic, as a day case. Prof. Sandip Hindocha, a consultant plastic surgeon certified by Motiva in the Preservé technique (GMC 6122218), offers it in London, Northampton, Luton, Bedford and the North West, from £7,995.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

What Is Motiva Preservé?

Motiva Preservé™ is a way of placing a breast implant with as little disturbance to the breast as the operation allows. A conventional augmentation makes the pocket for the implant by cutting through tissue, and often under the chest muscle. Preservé makes the pocket by parting the tissue with two purpose-built Motiva® instruments, a channel separator and an inflatable balloon, then slides the implant in through a sleeve so it is not handled on its way in. The implant sits in front of the chest muscle, which is left intact.

The implant is Motiva’s SmoothSilk® Ergonomix2®, chosen with you at consultation. Motiva says the technique is designed to preserve the breast’s own tissue and sensation compared with a traditional augmentation. That is the manufacturer’s description, based on its own data, and Prof. Hindocha will tell you what it does and does not show.

Prof. Sandip Hindocha is listed on Motiva’s clinic finder as a surgeon certified in Preservé. He plans each operation around your anatomy and what you want from it, from the first consultation to long-term follow-up. See how Preservé compares with a traditional breast augmentation.

HOW PRESERVÉ WORKS

Tissue Preservation: How the Technique Works

STEP ONE

Gentle Tunnelling

A purpose-built Motiva® Channel Separator creates the implant pocket by parting the tissue rather than cutting through it, protecting the surrounding structures.

STEP TWO

Controlled Tissue Elongation

A Motiva® Inflatable Balloon gently expands the space, encouraging your natural tissue to stretch and nest around the implant.

STEP THREE

Protected Implant Delivery

The implant is guided into place through a Motiva® Insertion Sleeve, allowing a smaller incision and a clean, no-touch delivery.

THE IMPLANT

SmoothSilk® Ergonomix2®

A soft, highly ergonomic implant designed to move and settle like natural breast tissue, completing the tissue-preserving approach.

UNDER LOCAL ANAESTHETIC

What Is the Operation Like When You Are Awake?

Preservé can be carried out under local anaesthetic with you awake. When Prof. Hindocha operates this way, this is what happens:

  • Local anaesthetic is placed around the breast. You feel pressure and movement, and you can talk throughout. Sedation is available if you would rather be drowsy
  • The channel separator makes a small tunnel in the tissue and the balloon gently stretches the space. Because you are awake, you can see the volume on your own body and discuss the size with him before the implant goes in
  • The implant goes in through a no-touch sleeve, through an incision of about 2.5 to 3 cm in the fold under the breast
  • You see the result in a mirror in theatre and go home the same day, with a support bra and a follow-up appointment booked

RECOVERY TIMELINE

Your Path to Recovery

First 48 Hours

Immediately After

Expect some tightness and swelling. Rest, keep the area supported and take pain relief as advised. Gentle movement starts early.

Week 1–2

Back to Light Routine

Many patients return to desk-based work within one to two weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and overhead reaching.

Weeks 2–4

Building Up

Everyday activity resumes as swelling settles. Keep wearing your support bra and follow Prof. Hindocha’s guidance.

Weeks 4–6

Full Activity

Most patients return to full exercise, including chest workouts, from around four to six weeks, once cleared at follow-up.

RESULTS

Aiming for a Natural Look and Feel

No surgeon can promise a result, and every breast heals differently. This is what Preservé is designed to give you:

  • A natural, proportionate increase in breast size and shape
  • A soft, natural feel from the SmoothSilk® Ergonomix2® implant
  • A tissue-sparing technique designed to protect breast and nipple sensation
  • A smaller, more discreet scar
  • A result planned around your body by Prof. Hindocha

WHY CHOOSE PRESERVÉ

The Benefits of a Tissue-Preserving Approach

Preserves Your Own Tissue

By working around the breast rather than through it, Preservé keeps more of your natural tissue, fat and muscle intact.

Protects Sensation

The tissue-sparing approach is designed to preserve nipple and breast sensation, which conventional techniques can affect.

A Smaller Incision

Preservé is placed through a smaller incision. Recovery varies from person to person and is planned with you at consultation.

Warranty Cover

Every Preservé implant comes with Motiva’s Always Confident Warranty® and a five-year extended warranty, so you know what is covered before surgery.

IMPLANT TECHNOLOGY & LONGEVITY

The Implant

Preservé uses Motiva’s Ergonomix2 implant. These are the features Motiva describes in its own materials:

  • SmoothSilk® surface and Ergonomix2® shell, designed for a soft feel
  • TrueMonobloc+® construction that unifies shell, patch and gel
  • ProgressiveGel Ultima®, designed to mimic the feel of natural breast tissue
  • BluSeal+® barrier layer that lets the surgeon check the implant before it is placed
  • Zen® RFID identification, compatible with all breast imaging including MRI
  • Always Confident Warranty® plus a 5-year extended warranty included with Preservé

ZEN® RFID INTELLIGENCE

Zen® RFID Identification

Every Preservé implant is uniquely identifiable through Motiva’s Zen® RFID, readable without surgery and fully compatible with all breast imaging, including MRI.

PRESERVÉ VS TRADITIONAL AUGMENTATION

How Does Preservé Compare?

TISSUE

Preserved, Not Divided

Traditional augmentation often divides muscle and tissue to make space. Preservé parts and preserves the tissue, protecting structure and sensation.

ANAESTHETIC

Often Local, Not General

Conventional augmentation is usually performed under general anaesthetic. Preservé can often be carried out under local anaesthetic with sedation.

SCAR & RECOVERY

Incision Size

The Preservé incision is about 2.5 to 3 cm, smaller than a typical augmentation incision. How quickly you recover varies from person to person.

STABILITY

Implant Position

Preservé leaves the tissue that supports the implant undivided. Motiva publishes its own follow-up data on implant position, and Prof. Hindocha can show you what it covers at consultation.

IS IT RIGHT FOR YOU?

Who Preservé Suits, and Who It Does Not

Preservé may suit you if (the full suitability guide covers age, implant size, pregnancy and revision):

  • You want a modest to moderate increase in breast size, or better shape and symmetry
  • You want to keep as much of your own breast tissue and sensation as the operation allows
  • You would rather avoid a general anaesthetic
  • You are over 18, in good general health, and not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You understand this is an operation with risks, and that results vary

It is not the right choice if:

  • Your breasts have dropped and you want implants alone. Preservé does not lift by itself, so Prof. Hindocha may combine it with an uplift, as in the consented cases, or suggest augmentation with a lift
  • You want a very large size change, where a traditional augmentation may suit you better
  • You already have implants that need replacing. That is implant exchange, and whether Preservé forms part of it is decided case by case

WHERE HE OPERATES

Where Does Prof. Hindocha Perform Preservé?

Prof. Hindocha sees Preservé patients at his clinics in London, Northampton, Luton, Bedford and the North West, and operates at private hospitals that hold the Motiva Preservé instruments. The hospital is agreed with you at consultation.

  • London: consultations at The Private Clinic, 98 Harley Street. The Private Clinic's own Preservé page names him as one of its two Preservé surgeons, with surgery at its hospital in Fitzroy Square
  • Manchester and Newton-le-Willows: consultations at Pall Mall Medical in Manchester, surgery at its hospital in Newton-le-Willows. Pall Mall's Preservé page lists him as its Preservé surgeon
  • Northampton: consultations at The Private Clinic, 82 Billing Road
  • Bedford and Luton: consultations at his Bedfordshire clinics. See all eleven locations

THE HONEST PART

What Are the Risks of Motiva Preservé?

Preservé is still breast implant surgery, and it carries the risks of any augmentation. The NHS lists them, and Prof. Hindocha goes through each one with you before you decide:

  • Scarring, which fades but does not disappear
  • Capsular contracture: scar tissue tightening around the implant, which can change its shape or feel
  • Implant rupture or rippling, and the possibility of further surgery to replace an implant. Implants do not last a lifetime
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which are usually temporary but can be permanent
  • Infection, bleeding or a collection of fluid that needs treatment
  • Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare cancer of the immune system linked to some breast implants, explained by the MHRA on GOV.UK

Motiva describes Preservé as designed to lower some of these risks compared with a traditional augmentation. That is the manufacturer's claim, based on its own data, and it does not remove any of them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions

Answers to the questions patients ask most about Motiva Preservé.

Preservé (also written Preservé by Motiva, or Motiva Preserve) is a minimally invasive breast augmentation technique from Motiva. Instead of dividing the breast tissue and muscle, it uses purpose-built instruments to create space for the implant while preserving your natural tissue, structure and sensation.
A conventional augmentation usually divides tissue, and often the muscle, under general anaesthetic. Preservé parts the tissue and leaves the muscle intact, can often use local anaesthetic, and uses a smaller incision. Recovery varies from person to person. Read the full comparison.
The technique is designed to protect the tissue and nerve pathways that carry sensation, which conventional augmentation can disturb. As with any surgery, changes in sensation are possible, and Prof. Hindocha will discuss this with you.
In front of it. The implant sits above the chest muscle, which is not divided. That is one reason the operation can be done under local anaesthetic.
Preservé on its own does not lift the breast. If your breasts have dropped, Prof. Hindocha can combine the Preservé augmentation with an uplift in one operation, as in the two consented cases on the results page, or suggest a conventional augmentation with a lift. The uplift adds the scars of a lift, which he explains at consultation.
No. The NHS does not fund breast augmentation for cosmetic reasons, and Preservé is offered privately in the UK. Prof. Hindocha’s fee starts from £7,995.
One scar of about 2.5 to 3 cm in the fold under each breast, where the implant went in. It is red at first and fades over months, though it never disappears completely. How visible it ends up depends on your skin and how you heal, and Prof. Hindocha shows you where it will sit at consultation.
Because it is less invasive, Preservé can often be performed under local anaesthetic with sedation, so you avoid a general anaesthetic. The right option for you is agreed with Prof. Hindocha at consultation.
Many patients return to light, desk-based work within one to two weeks and to full exercise by around four to six weeks. See the full recovery guide.
Prof. Hindocha’s fee for Motiva Preservé starts from £7,995, covering the consultation, the implants, surgery, aftercare and warranty cover. The exact figure is confirmed in a written, itemised quote after your consultation. See what the price includes.
Breast implants are not lifetime devices. The NHS says many need replacing after about 10 years, although some last longer. The Ergonomix2 implant used in Preservé carries Motiva’s Always Confident Warranty and a five-year extended warranty. Read about the implant.
Motiva is the implant manufacturer, Establishment Labs. Preservé is Motiva’s name for the technique and instruments used to place its Ergonomix2 implant through a smaller incision while parting rather than cutting the tissue. A surgeon can use Motiva implants without using Preservé.
That depends on what you want from the operation. Preservé costs more than a standard augmentation because of the Motiva instruments and the extended warranty. Patients choose it to keep more of their own tissue, to avoid a general anaesthetic, or for the smaller incision. If you want a large size change or need a lift, a different operation may serve you better.
At consultation, yes: Prof. Hindocha shows consented photographs of his own patients, and the Motiva balloon lets you see the planned volume on your own body before anything is decided. Photos are only published online with a patient’s written consent, so the Motiva Preservé before and after page shows the filmed operation and the consented cases, and the breast gallery carries the rest.

Page last updated 18 October 2026. The description of the technique and implant comes from Motiva’s published materials. The price is Prof. Hindocha’s own fee, from £7,995, confirmed in a written, itemised quote after consultation.
